Here is an example of the Bible Book Genesis with the color and black&white pictures:
1. GENESIS
KEY WORD: THE BEGINNING
Genesis is the Greek word for begin.
In the beginning God created everything by using His words: the heaven,
earth, planets, night and day, animals, birds, fish, man and woman. It is about
God Creation who also maintains His creation and who also shows His grace
towards man, bearer of His image. Genesis is an introduction to the Pentateuch
(first five books) and the whole of Old Testament. It tells the stories of the
creation, the first people who are the crown of the creation, but also the most
extreme sinners; we read about the flood (and the Ark) where everything was
destroyed until it was restored to the state before the creation; we read about
the tower of Babel which shows that man is always in revolt against God; we
read about the path God took with Abram and Gods covenants to man, that will
follow a long path throughout the Bible. God promise to look after Abram and
asked him to be a blessing to the world. Then Isaac, Jacob and his twelve sons
follow, the book ending with Joseph who died in Egypt after his whole family
followed him there. God’s promise to look after the ancestors was fulfilled at
the end of Genesis but not the promise of land.
*
Gen. 1 – 11: The pre history, the creation and fall into sin, Noah and
the flood, the tower of Babel (we cannot put a date to this – it is the old
part of the history when the world was created)
* Gen. 12-50: This is about our
patriarchs: Father Abraham, his son Isaac, and Isaac’s son Jacob. We
hear about Jacob’s 12 sons, and the whole story of Joseph. The book ends with
Joseph who died as an old man in Egypt (Genesis is taking place in 1950 – 1450
BC in the Middle to Late Bronze Age, when people were nomadic looking for
grazing for their livestock.
How many clues on the picture
make you think of the book Genesis?
*
The Creation (people, animals, birds, fish, plants, earth, sun, moon)
*
The snake and fruit tree remind us of the devil (disguised as a snake)
who tempted Adam and Eve to sin
*
The fire reminds us of Cain who was very mad at Abel because his
offering (fire) was accepted by God and not Cain. Then Cain killed Abel.
*
The Ark, the rainbow and the dove with the leaves remind us of Noah and
his Ark. After 40 days the dove brought the green leave to Noah to show him
that the flood is over. God said that the rainbow showed Noah that He will
never destroy the earth this way again.
*
The word “Abba” on Abram’s jacket means “Father” in Aramaic
language. Abram is our Patriarch. God called upon him from the town of Ur
of the Chaldeans (where they worshiped the moon). The stars around Father
Abram’s head remind us of God’s promise: if Abram follows God his ancestors
will be as many as the stars in heaven.
*
The knife in Abram’s had reminds us of Isaac. God asked Abram to offer
his son, Isaac, to test his love.
* The son and moon and eleven stars remind us
of Joseph’s dream where they bow in front of him. It means that his father,
Jacob (sun), his mother (moon) and the eleven brothers (stars) bow in front of
him.
*
The pyramids remind us of Egypt where Joseph was second in charge under
the King, and where Jacob, and all his brothers and families went to live.
* The mummy reminds us of
Joseph, King (second in charge), who dies at the end of the book Genesis ( and
for sure, in Egyptian tradition, would have been embalmed as they did with all
important men)
